We're currently planning a meeting for this day, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

Some confusion regarding this meeting, last update at 4:30 on Wednesday is the meeting will be taking place at Speakeasy.

This is a secured building, so let someone in the lobby know that you're looking for the GSLUG meeting and they will show you up.

[edit] Directions by bus

Any bus that goes to downtown Seattle will get you well within walking distance. Use Metro's Trip Planner or Google Transit to find your closest bus and departure time.

If you absolutely must drive, don't - take the bus. If you still absolutely must drive, here is driving directions and parking information.

Traveling South on I-5

Take the Union Street exit (Union is a one-way street). Follow Union Street to 2nd Avenue and take a LEFT. Continue on 2nd Avenue to Madison and take a RIGHT. At Western Avenue turn RIGHT. We are located at 1201 Western Avenue between Seneca and University.

Traveling North on I-5

Take the Madison Street exit and turn LEFT onto Madison St. and follow it down to Western Avenue. Turn RIGHT and follow to 1201 Western Avenue. We are located between Seneca and University.

Traveling West on I-90

Take the 1-5 North exit and follow the directions "Traveling North on I-5."

Traveling West on Highway 520

Take the I-5 South exit and follow the directions "Traveling South on I-5."


Parking

There are paid lots in the immediate area as well as the Harbor Steps parking garage. If you are parking in the Harbor Steps garage, continue on Madison to Western Avenue and turn RIGHT onto Western. Continue for 2 ½ blocks to the parking garage, located between Seneca and University Streets.


Motorcycle Parking

There is a labeled Speakeasy space for motorcycle parking at the rear of the building, the side that faces the viaduct, that is free.

[edit] 5-minute Lighting Talks

lightning talks are usually around 5 minutes each. There will be lots of time later in the day for everyone to break into groups and learn more about each topic.

If you're interested in presenting, add yourself below. If you'd like more than 5 minutes, just send a quick email off to Eric Butler <eric@extremeboredom.net>. The goal of having short talks is to encourage everyone to participate, but if you'd like to go more in-depth on a topic, we'd love to have you as well.

I recently installed Debian Etch on a 486 with one gigabyte of disk storage and 40 megabytes of RAM. I'll go through some of the steps that can be taken to slim down a desktop distribution without losing much functionality.

I will present the second chapter of the Ubuntu Desktop Training course. A PDF version of chapter 2 will be provided online or in printed form.

Building on last meeting's kickstart talk to demonstrate an easy to use and scalable installation system. If you install Linux on multiple machines with a CD or a golden image, you need this.

The rest of the day will be open for people to chat (sorry no raffle/quiz this time), learn more about what they heard in the lighting talks, and get hands-on support with your hardware. Got a busted up Windows install on your computer that you need help getting rid of? Bring it along!
