[edit] Speakers & Schedule
[edit] 12:00 PM: Arrive, get settled, food and mingling
Food will be provided by Silicon Mechanics (Thanks for your continued support of the local linux community!) , please RSVP below if you'd like to eat!
[edit] 5-minute Lighting Talks
lightning talks are usually around 5 minutes each. There will be lots of time later in the day for everyone to break into groups and learn more about each topic.
If you're interested in presenting, add yourself below. If you'd like more than 5 minutes, just send a quick email off to Eric Butler <eric@extremeboredom.net>. The goal of having short talks is to encourage everyone to participate, but if you'd like to go more in-depth on a topic, we'd love to have you as well.
[edit] 12:30 PM: Using Capistrano for System Administration -- Bryan McLellan
Capistrano is highly used for managing rails deployments in heavy ruby houses, but can also be used for system administrators to make ad hoc changes to a large number of systems. I'll show you how to get started.
[edit] 12:40 PM: Secure Backups with Duplicity -- Eric Heydrick
Duplicity is backup software for doing efficient encrypted backups via multiple backends including ssh and Amazon's S3 service. I will show how to setup a backup system that's sensible and secure.
[edit] 12:45 PM: Introduction to Live Linux -- Daniil Kulchenko
Linux Live CDs and Live USBs are getting more and more popular these days. I'll explain to you the basics of this new type of Linux, name off and explain a few titles, and briefly explain how to install and set up a Live system.
[edit] 12:50 PM: What is SCCP? -- Ryan Corder
Find out what the Seattle Community Colocation Project is all about. I'll show some pictures, share some statistics, and discuss the who, what, and why of the project.
[edit] 12:55 PM: Kickstarting current code -- Randy Bentson
Kickstart is a convenient way to install from the net, but it's painful to watch the system do a massive update immediately thereafter. Fortunately there is a kickstart option which permits installation from updated packages. See http://gslug.org/index.php/User_talk:Bentson for more.
[edit] 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Workshop, Freeform chat, and Ubuntu Bug Jam
The rest of the day will be open for people to chat (sorry no raffle/quiz this time), learn more about what they heard in the lighting talks, and get hands-on support with your hardware. Got a busted up Windows install on your computer that you need help getting rid of? Bring it along! We will also be participating in the global ubuntu bug jam, and get some tirageing done.
